Paul W. Wiens, Professor of Choral Music and
Conducting, directs the Wheaton College Concert Choir, and teaches conducting at the Conservatory
of Music at Wheaton College (Illinois).
He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University
of Iowa (Don Moses), taught at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison (Robert Fountain), and sang with the Atlanta
Symphony Chamber Chorus (Robert Shaw). |
Under his direction, the Concert Choir has responded to the challenges of traditional, multi-cultural and newly composed repertoire. The 2008-09 concert season will feature works by Schutz, Bach, Martin, Howells, Tippett, Walton, Holst, Penderecki, Van, Stravinsky, Reger, Gesualdo, Valerie Kikta and Chandler Branch. The 2009-10 season featured works by MacMillan, Lauridsen, Britten and Brahms. Since
becoming the choir's director in 1981, he has led the Concert Choir in performances at two
National and five Central Division conventions of the American
Choral Director's Association. Paul Wiens is the sixth conductor
of the Wheaton College Concert Choir, which was founded in 1934.
Paul Wiens has served as Chorus Master for Wheaton
College Artist Series performances under the baton of John Nelson. These memorable performances have included Mendelssohn's Elijah, Britten's War
Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Berlioz' Requiem and Brahms' Requiem. |
